TAFE Outreach programs are closely aligned to the Federal Social Inclusion Agenda ensuring NSW education is accessible to people who face barriers to learning including geographical and social isolation, language and cultural factors, financial hardship, lack of educational confidence, being unaware of opportunities to learn, a disability or family commitments.

How is the Qualification Tailored?

The TAFE Outreach Coordinator worked in partnership with Uniting Care Burnside to develop a mentoring training course for parents who attend supported playgroups in Coffs Harbour. The peer-mentoring model introduced into the supported playgroup environment aims to teach a group of parents to mentor other playgroup parents. Ongoing negotiation between Burnside, TAFE Outreach and participants ensured the programme content and delivery was responsive, inclusive and aimed to increase self-confidence and self-esteem, knowledge about child development, child protection and local community services.
