TAFE Outreach programs are closely aligned to the Federal Social Inclusion Agenda ensuring NSW education is accessible to people who face barriers to learning including geographical and social isolation, language and cultural factors, financial hardship, lack of educational confidence, being unaware of opportunities to learn, a disability or family commitments.

What are the outcomes?

Parents completing the mentoring course demonstrated:

  • increase in knowledge of child development, child protection, and community services
  • improved communication skills, more confident, knowledgeable and sensitive.
  • greater awareness of body language, active listening, managed conflict more constructively.
  • knowledge about community services, child abuse and child development
  • plans to continue further study within the next two years.

Effective role models within playgroups as parents are more willing to take advice and have their behaviour challenged by another parent than professional staff.
